Subsensorial treatments and Diagrams in cohabitation with mycorrhiza, oxygen, mycobacterium vaccae in a Mudhut.

In Nose Ears Eyes, Lindman brought together various life-events between materials (Mudhut) and intentions (Subsensorial Treatments).

For four months at the 32nd Sao Paulo Biennale (2016), Pia Lindman gave Subsensorial Treatments to the audience visiting the Biennale. These treatments were based on various healing techniques, such as Kalevala Bone Setting, which in turn is based on the ancient Finnish oral tradition. While giving these treatments, Lindman senses energy in the person being treated as halos, movements, and blockages. Sometimes these energy flows appear as distinct colors, sounds, texts, shapes, animals, and other living figures. These appearances are the base of her notes and drawings in China ink and pastels that she makes during a treatment. Although these are paintings, they are titled Diagrams as they express entanglements of molecular, co-corporeal, and energetic events.

In 32nd Sao Paulo Biennale, Pia Lindman gave her treatments in the Mudhut, which was built according to her design by local craftsmen specialised in traditional Brazilian building techniques (Pau a Pique, bamboo and mud). Lindman created the Mudhut as a healing space inside the existing modernist architecture by Oskar Niemeyer. A space built for breathing, Mudhut became a site of co-habitation between microbes, plants, and humans. To bring in beneficial substances such as microbes, mycorrhiza, and oxygen, Lindman designed the Mudhut to extend itself outside the walls of the existing architecture. One channel digs itself into the soil, and connects with the roots of a tree standing next to the building. Bamboo tubes extend to the leaves of that same tree. Nose Ears Eyes is thus connected to the energy cycle and metabolism of the tree.
