Subsensorial treatments, experiments with voicing /Gathering for Rehearsing Hospitalities, Frame Contemporary Art, Finland, 2019
During the week of Gathering for Rehearsing Hospitalities artist Pia Lindman held a series of one-to-one healing sessions with collaborator artist and singer Anna Matveinen.
During the session, Lindman utilised various ancient healing techniques and her own subsensorial sensitivity to treat the participant, while her collaborator Anna Matveinen utilized their voicing skills and subsensorial sensitivity for sound healing.
Each healing session was a jointly created artistic event and experience. It was also research.
Each session was characterised by four main stages:
1) Each session began with all three participants reporting on their subsensorial state by writing, drawing, or other means of self-expression.
The session room included pens, crayons, and paper.
2) Healing session
The healing session was conducted on the individual terms of the receiver of the healing. We agreed on this treatment by an initial discussion. The receiver of the healing was asked to prepare for the session in advance in the following manner: Depending on the agreed treatment, the receiver was asked to undress to their underwear. At no point during the session were there anyone else present in the healing room, except for the three participating in the session (Pia Lindman, Anna Matveinen, and the receiver).
3) After each session, participants re-reported on their subsensorial state.
4) The three participants concluded with jointly looking at and discussing their notes and other expressions of their experiences during the session.
